Failover Clustering

A Windows Server feature that groups servers (nodes) so clustered roles automatically fail over to another node when one fails.

Definition

Clusters host highly available roles such as Hyper-V VMs, SQL Server instances and file servers. They require validated hardware, shared or replicated storage and a quorum configuration. Test-Cluster runs validation.

Example

Test-Cluster -Node hv01,hv02 validates hardware before New-Cluster creates the cluster.

Exam tip

Run cluster validation before creating a cluster; Microsoft supports only clusters that pass validation.
