Enhanced 911 (E911)

Emergency calling that delivers the caller's callback number and location to the public safety answering point.

Definition

E911 automatically provides ANI (callback number) and ALI (location) to the PSAP. In the US, Kari's Law requires multiline telephone systems to allow direct 911 dialing without a prefix and to notify on-site personnel, and RAY BAUM'S Act requires a dispatchable location such as building, floor and room. Enterprise tools such as Cisco Emergency Responder, Webex Calling emergency services and Teams dynamic emergency calling track phone locations.

Example

When a user dials 911, CUCM routes through a route pattern to Cisco Emergency Responder, which sends the ELIN for the caller's floor.

Exam tip

Remember Kari's Law (direct dial and notification) versus RAY BAUM'S Act (dispatchable location).
