CPU Ready Time

The time a VM's vCPU is ready to run but waiting for the hypervisor to schedule it on a physical CPU.

Definition

High CPU ready indicates CPU contention from overcommitment or oversized VMs. In esxtop it appears as %RDY; values above roughly 5 percent per vCPU commonly signal problems.

Example

A VM with 16 vCPUs shows 15 percent ready time on a busy host, so it is right-sized to 8 vCPUs.

Exam tip

High ready time is fixed by reducing vCPU count or contention, not by adding vCPUs.
