Confidence Level

An assessment of how reliable an intelligence finding or indicator is, based on source reliability and corroboration.

Definition

Analysts express confidence as low, moderate or high, or as numeric scores in TIPs and STIX. Source reliability may be rated using the Admiralty Code. Confidence guides whether to block automatically or only alert.

Example

Auto-blocking only indicators with high confidence and alerting on moderate ones.

Exam tip

Exams may ask how to treat low-confidence indicators: monitor, do not block outright.
