Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI)

Evidence-based knowledge about threats and threat actors that informs security decisions.

Definition

CTI is produced by collecting and analyzing data about adversaries' capabilities, infrastructure, intent and TTPs, then delivering it in a form decision-makers can act on. It is categorized as strategic, operational, tactical and technical. Good intelligence is timely, relevant, accurate and actionable.

Example

A report that a ransomware group is targeting your sector via an unpatched VPN appliance, with IoCs and detections.

Exam tip

Intelligence must be actionable; raw data or a feed alone is not intelligence.
