Change Enablement

The ITIL 4 practice (formerly change management) of maximizing successful IT changes by assessing risk, authorizing, and scheduling them.

Definition

A change is the addition, modification, or removal of anything that could affect services. Change enablement classifies changes as standard, normal, or emergency, assigns a change authority, and maintains a change schedule. Requests include purpose, scope, risk analysis, rollback plan, and test results.

Example

A request to upgrade the firewall firmware includes a risk assessment, test plan, and backout plan.

Exam tip

Every change needs a backout (rollback) plan; know standard vs normal vs emergency.
