Centralized Call Processing

A deployment model in which one CUCM cluster at headquarters controls phones at all branch sites across the WAN.

Definition

Centralized call processing simplifies administration and licensing but makes branch phones dependent on WAN availability for registration. Designs therefore include SRST or Enhanced SRST for survivability, call admission control to protect WAN bandwidth, and local PSTN gateways or centralized SIP trunking. Distributed call processing, by contrast, places a separate cluster or CME at each large site.

Example

Two hundred branch offices register to a central CUCM cluster and fall back to local ISR routers in SRST mode during WAN failures.

Exam tip

If a question mentions a single cluster with many branches, expect SRST, CAC and AAR as the supporting features.
