Cascading

Linking conference bridges or media nodes together so one meeting spans multiple servers or locations.

Definition

Cascading allows a meeting to scale beyond one bridge and keeps media local by connecting participants to nearby nodes that exchange a reduced set of streams. Webex Video Mesh cascades on-premises nodes to the cloud, and Cisco Meeting Server distributes calls across call bridges. Poorly designed cascades can add latency.

Example

Participants in London and Sydney connect to local media nodes that cascade to each other for one global meeting.

Exam tip

Cascading reduces WAN bandwidth by sending one link stream instead of many individual streams.
