Build Artifact

A versioned output of a build, such as a compiled binary, package, or container image, that is promoted through environments.

Definition

The principle of 'build once, deploy many' means the same artifact is tested and promoted to each environment, with only configuration varying. Artifacts are stored in artifact repositories or container registries.

Example

app-1.4.2.jar is built once and deployed to dev, test, and production.

Exam tip

Rebuilding per environment is an anti-pattern; promote the same immutable artifact.
