Aisle Containment

Physically enclosing hot aisles or cold aisles with doors, panels or roofs to prevent mixing of hot and cold air.

Definition

Cold aisle containment encloses the supply air, while hot aisle containment captures exhaust and returns it to cooling units, often allowing the rest of the room to be cooler. Both improve cooling efficiency and PUE.

Example

Hot aisle containment with a ceiling plenum returns exhaust directly to the CRAH units.

Exam tip

Containment reduces air mixing and lowers PUE; hot aisle containment leaves the room at cool temperatures.
