WPA3 Transition Mode

A mixed mode where one SSID accepts both WPA2-PSK and WPA3-SAE clients, with PMF optional.

Definition

Transition mode eases migration to WPA3 while legacy clients remain. Because WPA2-PSK remains enabled, attackers can still target the PSK, and downgrade attacks are possible. It is not allowed in 6 GHz, which requires WPA3-only.

Exam tip

Transition mode keeps WPA2 weaknesses; 6 GHz requires WPA3-only.
