Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)

A simplified setup method using a PIN or push button, vulnerable to brute-force and Pixie Dust attacks.

Definition

The 8-digit WPS PIN is validated in two halves with a checksum digit, reducing brute force to about 11,000 attempts. The Pixie Dust attack exploits weak random numbers in some implementations to recover the PIN offline. WPS should be disabled.

Exam tip

Disable WPS; the PIN design is fundamentally weak.
