User Priority (UP)

The 802.1D-based 0-7 priority value carried in 802.11 QoS data frames.

Definition

UP values map to access categories and are typically derived from DSCP at the AP or client. Voice typically uses UP 6 and video UP 5 (or 4). Cisco WLCs map DSCP to UP for downstream traffic.

Exam tip

UP 7 is network control; voice normally uses UP 6.
