Trigger Frame

An 802.11ax control frame that solicits and schedules simultaneous uplink transmissions from multiple clients.

Definition

The AP sends a trigger frame specifying RU allocations, MCS, power, and duration for each client. Clients respond with HE trigger-based PPDUs at the same time. Variants include basic, BSRP (buffer status report poll), and MU-RTS triggers.

Exam tip

Uplink OFDMA and uplink MU-MIMO depend on trigger frames.
