Subresource Integrity (SRI)

A browser feature that verifies scripts or stylesheets loaded from third parties against a cryptographic hash in the HTML tag.

Definition

The integrity attribute contains a base64 SHA-256/384/512 hash; if the fetched file differs, the browser refuses to execute it. It protects against compromised CDNs but requires updating hashes when files change.

Example

<script src="https://cdn.example/lib.js" integrity="sha384-..." crossorigin="anonymous"></script>

Exam tip

SRI addresses software and data integrity failures from third-party CDNs.
