Shared Fate

Google Cloud's extension of shared responsibility in which the provider actively helps customers deploy securely.

Definition

Shared fate is Google Cloud's model that goes beyond dividing responsibilities: Google provides secure-by-default configurations, blueprints, guidance, risk protection programs and tooling so customers achieve good security outcomes. Customers still own their configurations and data, but the provider shares an interest in their security posture.

Example

A team deploys a Google-published secure foundation blueprint that sets up organization policies and logging from day one.

Exam tip

On Google exams, shared fate is the provider-partnership evolution of the shared responsibility model, not a replacement that removes customer duties.
