Security User Story

An agile user story written to capture a security requirement, often from the viewpoint of a defender or attacker.

Definition

Security user stories bring security into backlogs so they are prioritized and delivered like features. They typically include acceptance criteria that can be tested, such as rate limits or audit logging. Some teams also write 'evil user stories' from an attacker's perspective.

Example

As an account owner, I want to be notified when my password changes so I can detect account takeover.

Exam tip

Agile questions favor placing security work in the backlog with acceptance criteria rather than a separate end-phase review.
