Security List

OCI virtual firewall rules applied at the subnet level, specifying allowed ingress and egress traffic.

Definition

Security lists contain stateful or stateless ingress and egress rules applied to all VNICs in associated subnets. Network security groups (NSGs) provide finer-grained rules applied to specific VNICs. If both apply, traffic is allowed if any rule in either allows it.

Example

A security list allows TCP 443 ingress from 0.0.0.0/0 to the public load balancer subnet.

Exam tip

Security lists are subnet-level; NSGs are VNIC-level and are recommended for application-specific rules.
