Security as a Service (SECaaS)

Delivery of security capabilities, such as email filtering, web gateways or SIEM, as cloud-hosted subscription services.

Definition

Security as a Service outsources security functions to a cloud provider that operates them on behalf of the customer. Common examples include cloud email security, secure web gateways, identity services, vulnerability scanning and managed detection, all consumed without deploying on-premises appliances.

Example

Routing all branch internet traffic through a cloud secure web gateway instead of local proxy servers.

Exam tip

SECaaS is broader than SASE; SASE and SSE are specific architectures that combine several SECaaS functions with networking.
