Quishing

Phishing that uses QR codes to direct victims to malicious websites.

Definition

QR codes hide the destination URL from users and from many email security scanners, which may not decode images. Attackers place codes in emails, parking meters or posters. Users scanning with personal phones also bypass corporate web filtering.

Example

A fake MFA re-enrollment email with a QR code leading to a credential-harvesting page.

Exam tip

QR phishing evades URL filters because the link is an image; mobile device scanning moves the attack off managed endpoints.
