Privileged Container

A container run with all host capabilities and device access, effectively removing isolation from the host.

Definition

With --privileged or privileged: true, a container can access host devices and kernel features, making container escape trivial. It should be avoided except for tightly controlled system components and blocked by admission policies.

Example

A Pod Security Admission policy at the baseline level rejects a pod requesting privileged: true.

Exam tip

Privileged containers are essentially root on the node.
