Physical Control

Control that restricts or monitors physical access to facilities and assets.

Definition

Physical controls include fences, locks, mantraps (access control vestibules), bollards, lighting, cameras, and environmental protections. They protect people, equipment, and media. Many physical controls also serve deterrent or detective functions.

Example

An access control vestibule prevents tailgating into a data center.

Exam tip

Security+ uses 'access control vestibule' for what older materials call a mantrap.
