Pathping

A Windows command that combines traceroute and ping to show loss and latency at each hop over a period of time.

Definition

Pathping first discovers the path, then sends many pings to each hop and reports statistics, helping locate where loss occurs. Linux mtr provides similar functionality.

Example

pathping 8.8.8.8 identifies 10 percent loss starting at hop 5.

Exam tip

Pathping finds the hop where loss begins.
