OSPF Network Statement

An OSPF configuration command that uses an address and wildcard mask to select interfaces and assign them to an area.

Definition

Any interface whose primary IP falls within the network/wildcard pair is enabled for OSPF in the given area. The statement does not define what prefix is advertised; the interface's actual subnet is advertised. Interface-level ip ospf <process> area <area> takes precedence and is often clearer.

Example

network 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 area 0 enables OSPF on exactly that interface.

Exam tip

The network command matches interfaces, it does not inject a route; know how the wildcard is evaluated.
