Non-Additive Measure

A fact that cannot be summed across any dimension, such as percentages, ratios or unit prices.

Definition

Non-additive values must be recalculated from additive components at each level of aggregation, for example margin % = SUM(Profit) / SUM(Revenue). Averaging percentages gives wrong results.

Exam tip

Summing or averaging a stored percentage column is wrong; compute ratios from sums.
