Network Statistics Command (netstat)

A command that shows active connections, listening ports, routing tables and interface statistics.

Definition

netstat -a shows all connections and listeners, -n shows numeric addresses, -b (Windows) shows the owning program, -r shows the routing table, and -o shows process IDs. On Linux, ss replaces it.

Example

netstat -ano piped to findstr :443 finds the process using port 443.

Exam tip

netstat answers "what is listening on this host and who is connected."
