Network Entity Title

The IS-IS router address in NSAP format, containing the area ID, system ID and NSEL of 00.

Definition

A typical NET is 49.0001.1921.6800.1001.00: 49 is the private AFI, 0001 the area, the next six bytes the system ID and 00 the selector. All routers in an IS-IS area share the area portion, and system IDs must be unique. A router can have up to three NETs during area migrations.

Example

net 49.0001.0100.0000.0001.00

Exam tip

The NSEL must be 00 for a router NET; system IDs are often derived from the loopback IP.
