Namespace

A Kubernetes mechanism for dividing a cluster into virtual partitions that scope names, policies, quotas, and access control.

Definition

Namespaces isolate teams or environments logically. Default namespaces include default, kube-system, kube-public, and kube-node-lease. Nodes and PersistentVolumes are cluster-scoped.

Example

kubectl create namespace dev && kubectl config set-context --current --namespace=dev

Exam tip

Namespaces are not a hard security boundary on their own; combine with RBAC, NetworkPolicy, and quotas.
