Multi-Instance GPU (MIG)

An NVIDIA feature that partitions one GPU into up to seven isolated instances with dedicated compute and memory.

Definition

MIG provides hardware isolation and guaranteed quality of service, letting several smaller inference or development workloads share a GPU. It differs from time-slicing, which shares a GPU without memory isolation, and from vGPU for virtual machines.

Exam tip

MIG = hardware-isolated partitions; time-slicing = shared, no isolation.
