Logical Topology

The way data flows through a network and how devices communicate, independent of physical cabling.

Definition

Logical diagrams show subnets, VLANs, routing domains and traffic paths rather than cable runs. A hub-based star is physically a star but logically a bus because every device sees all traffic.

Example

A diagram showing VLAN 10 at 10.1.10.0/24 routed through the core switch is a logical topology.

Exam tip

Logical network diagrams list IP subnets and VLANs; physical diagrams show ports and racks.
