Hidden SSID

Configuring an AP not to include its SSID in beacons, also called SSID cloaking.

Definition

With a hidden SSID, beacons carry a null SSID, and clients must probe for the name explicitly. The SSID is still visible in probe requests, probe responses, and association frames. It provides no real security and can cause client issues.

Exam tip

Hiding the SSID is not a security control; the name is easily captured.
