Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP)

Cisco-proprietary FHRP that provides gateway redundancy and load balancing using one virtual IP and multiple virtual MACs.

Definition

One Active Virtual Gateway (AVG) answers ARP requests with different virtual MACs, each owned by an Active Virtual Forwarder (AVF); up to four AVFs per group. Load-balancing methods are round-robin (default), weighted and host-dependent. It uses multicast 224.0.0.102 and UDP 3222.

Example

glbp 1 ip 10.1.1.1 / glbp 1 load-balancing round-robin

Exam tip

GLBP is the only FHRP that load balances within a single group.
