Four-Address Frame

An 802.11 frame with To DS and From DS both set, carrying transmitter, receiver, source, and destination addresses.

Definition

Most frames use three address fields; WDS frames need four to identify wireless intermediate hops plus the original source and final destination. Analysts must interpret addresses based on DS bits.

Exam tip

To DS=1 and From DS=1 indicates a four-address frame.
