Forensic Report

A formal document presenting the methods, findings and conclusions of a forensic investigation.

Definition

A forensic report describes the scope, evidence collected with hashes, tools and versions used, analysis steps, findings supported by evidence, and conclusions without unsupported speculation. It must be clear for non-technical readers and defensible under scrutiny.

Example

A report showing timeline evidence that an ex-employee copied files to USB on their last day.

Exam tip

Reports should be factual, reproducible and separate facts from opinions.
