Fast Reroute (FRR)

Precomputed local protection that switches traffic onto a backup path within about 50 ms of a failure.

Definition

MPLS TE FRR uses facility backup (bypass tunnels protecting a link or node) or one-to-one detour. IP FRR uses LFA, remote LFA and TI-LFA. The point of local repair redirects traffic immediately while the headend reoptimizes.

Example

tunnel mpls traffic-eng fast-reroute on the primary tunnel; mpls traffic-eng backup-path Tunnel100 on the protected interface

Exam tip

Link protection uses next-hop bypass; node protection uses next-next-hop bypass.
