Failed Deployment Recovery Time

A DORA metric, formerly called time to restore service (MTTR), measuring how long it takes to recover from a failed deployment.

Definition

DORA renamed the metric in 2023 to focus on recovery from change-induced failures rather than all incidents. Fast recovery depends on good monitoring, automated rollback, and small changes.

Example

A bad release detected at 09:05 and rolled back at 09:20 has a recovery time of 15 minutes.

Exam tip

Older materials call it MTTR or time to restore service; treat them as the same DORA stability metric.
