Enterprise Governance of IT (EGIT)

Governance of information and technology that ensures IT enables enterprise goals, optimizes risk and resources, and delivers value.

Definition

EGIT is the term used by ISACA and COBIT for the part of corporate governance concerned with information and technology. It distinguishes governance (evaluate, direct, monitor) from management (plan, build, run, monitor). Its objectives are benefits realization, risk optimization, and resource optimization.

Example

A board-level digital committee evaluates proposed cloud investments against enterprise goals before approving funding.

Exam tip

COBIT separates governance objectives (EDM domain) from management objectives; mixing them is a common trap.
