Edwards-curve Digital Signature Algorithm (EdDSA)

Deterministic signature scheme on twisted Edwards curves, most commonly Ed25519.

Definition

EdDSA (RFC 8032) avoids the random-nonce pitfalls of ECDSA by deriving nonces deterministically. Ed25519 is fast, has small keys and signatures, and is approved in FIPS 186-5. It is popular for SSH keys, software signing, and modern protocols.

Example

GitHub recommends generating Ed25519 SSH keys for authentication.

Exam tip

EdDSA is deterministic, so it does not depend on a good RNG at signing time.
