DLL Injection

Forcing a running process to load a malicious dynamic-link library.

Definition

Attackers write the DLL path into a target process and call LoadLibrary via a remote thread, or use reflective loading to avoid touching disk. The code then runs with the target process's privileges. Related techniques include DLL search order hijacking and DLL side-loading.

Example

Injecting a keylogging DLL into a browser process.

Exam tip

Know DLL injection (into running process) vs DLL hijacking (placing a DLL where it will be loaded).
