Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP)

A documented plan for restoring IT systems, data and infrastructure after a disruptive event.

Definition

A DRP specifies recovery priorities, procedures, roles, alternate sites, backup restoration steps and contact lists based on RTO and RPO targets from the BIA. It is a component of the broader business continuity program and must be tested regularly.

Example

Failing over critical applications to a secondary cloud region after a data center outage.

Exam tip

DR is technology-focused and triggered by disasters; IR addresses security incidents.
