Direct Internet Access (DIA)

Sending branch Internet traffic directly out a local Internet link instead of backhauling it to a data center.

Definition

DIA reduces latency for SaaS and cloud applications. It requires local NAT and security (firewall, DNS or SSE security) and is configured in Cisco SD-WAN with NAT on the transport interface and data policy or routes.

Example

ip nat inside source list on the WAN Edge with a default route in the service VPN to VPN 0.

Exam tip

DIA needs local security controls because traffic bypasses the central firewall.
