COMMIT Statement

The TCL command that makes all changes in the current transaction permanent and visible to other sessions.

Definition

After COMMIT, changes survive failures (durability) and locks are released. In autocommit mode each statement is committed automatically.

Example

BEGIN; UPDATE Accounts SET Bal = Bal - 100 WHERE ID = 1; UPDATE Accounts SET Bal = Bal + 100 WHERE ID = 2; COMMIT;

Exam tip

After a COMMIT, a ROLLBACK cannot undo the changes; recovery requires a backup or a feature such as Time Travel.
