Cloud Service Broker (CSB)

Intermediary that aggregates, integrates or customizes cloud services from multiple providers on behalf of customers.

Definition

A cloud broker manages the use, performance and delivery of cloud services and negotiates relationships between providers and consumers. NIST describes three broker functions: service intermediation, service aggregation and service arbitrage.

Example

A managed services firm combines compute from two providers and a SaaS backup tool into one bundled offering with a single bill.

Exam tip

Do not confuse a cloud service broker with a CASB; the broker manages commercial and integration relationships, while a CASB enforces security policy.
