Brewer-Nash Model

Access control model, also called the Chinese Wall, that prevents conflicts of interest by restricting access dynamically.

Definition

Brewer-Nash allows a subject to access data from one company in a conflict-of-interest class but then blocks access to competitors in the same class. Permissions change based on the subject's prior access. It is used by consulting, legal, and financial firms.

Example

A consultant who views Bank A's merger data is automatically blocked from Bank B's files.

Exam tip

Chinese Wall = dynamic, history-based conflict-of-interest protection.
