Barker Code

An 11-chip spreading code used for 1 and 2 Mbps DSSS data rates.

Definition

Each data bit is represented by an 11-chip Barker sequence, providing processing gain against noise. It is used with DBPSK at 1 Mbps and DQPSK at 2 Mbps. Higher 802.11b rates use CCK instead.

Exam tip

Barker = 1/2 Mbps; CCK = 5.5/11 Mbps.
