Artifact Signing

Cryptographically signing build artifacts or container images so consumers can verify their origin and integrity.

Definition

Tools include Sigstore cosign, Notation (Notary v2), and GPG. Admission controllers or deploy policies can reject unsigned images, protecting against tampering in the supply chain.

Example

cosign sign registry.example.com/app@sha256:... and a Kyverno policy enforces verification.

Exam tip

Signing proves who built it and that it is unchanged; it does not prove it is vulnerability-free.
