Angled Physical Contact (APC)

A fiber end-face polish angled at 8 degrees to minimize back reflection, used in PON, FTTH and RF-over-fiber.

Definition

The angle directs reflected light into the cladding, giving return loss of about -60 dB or better. APC connectors are green and are standard in GPON and cable TV fiber systems.

Example

An FTTH installation uses SC/APC connectors at the ONT.

Exam tip

Mating APC to UPC causes high loss and can damage end faces.
