Android Runtime Permissions

Android's model requiring apps to request dangerous permissions, such as location or camera, from the user at runtime.

Definition

Since Android 6.0, dangerous permissions are granted at use time and can be revoked; newer versions add one-time and approximate location permissions and auto-reset for unused apps. Apps should request the minimum permissions needed, applying least privilege.

Example

A flashlight app requesting contacts and location access is a privacy red flag.

Exam tip

Least privilege for mobile = request only needed permissions.
