Access Port

A switch port that carries traffic for a single data VLAN (plus optionally a voice VLAN) without tagging.

Definition

Frames on an access port are untagged; the switch associates them with the configured access VLAN internally. End hosts such as PCs and printers connect to access ports. Junos calls this interface-mode access.

Example

switchport mode access / switchport access vlan 10

Exam tip

An access port with a voice VLAN still counts as an access port; the phone tags voice traffic with 802.1Q.
