ServiceNow CIS - Discovery: key terms

Flashcards for this exam ServiceNow CIS - Discovery guide Class dates

• Application ServiceCSDM CI representing a deployed instance of an application stack, such as SAP Production, mapped to its infrastructure.Intermediate
• CI ClassTable in the CMDB class hierarchy, such as cmdb_ci_server or cmdb_ci_linux_server, defining attributes and identification rules for a type of CI.Intermediate
• CI Class ManagerCMDB tool for viewing and managing CI classes, attributes, identification rules and health settings.Intermediate
• CI RelationshipLink between two CIs with a type such as Runs on::Runs or Depends on::Used by, stored in cmdb_rel_ci.Intermediate
• CMDB HealthDashboard and metrics measuring CMDB completeness, correctness (duplicates, orphans, staleness) and compliance.Intermediate
• Configuration Item (CI)Any component that must be managed to deliver a service, such as a server, application, database or business service.Foundational
• Configuration Management Database (CMDB)Repository of configuration items and their relationships that underpins ServiceNow ITSM, ITOM and other workflows.Foundational
• DiscoveryServiceNow ITOM application that finds devices and applications on the network and populates the CMDB.Foundational
• Discovery CredentialsStored credentials (SSH, Windows, SNMP, VMware, cloud) used by MID Servers to access discovered devices.Intermediate
• Discovery PatternStep-based identification and exploration logic in Pattern Designer used by Discovery and Service Mapping.Advanced
• Discovery ScheduleConfiguration defining what IP ranges, behaviors and MID Servers Discovery uses and when it runs.Intermediate
• ECC QueueExternal Communication Channel table that queues messages between the instance and MID Servers.Advanced
• Event ManagementServiceNow ITOM application that ingests monitoring events, deduplicates and correlates them into alerts tied to CIs.Intermediate
• Identification and Reconciliation Engine (IRE)CMDB framework that identifies whether incoming CI data matches existing CIs and reconciles which source can update which attributes.Advanced
• MID ServerJava application installed on a server inside the customer network that communicates with the instance to perform Discovery, orchestration and integrations.Intermediate
• Probe and SensorLegacy Discovery mechanism where probes collect data from devices and sensors process the results into CI updates.Advanced
• Reconciliation Rule (CMDB)IRE rule specifying which discovery sources are authoritative to update specific CI attributes, with priorities.Advanced
• Service Graph ConnectorCertified integration that imports third-party data (such as Microsoft SCCM, Intune, AWS) into the CMDB through the IRE.Advanced
• Service MappingITOM application that discovers application services top-down from an entry point, mapping their components and dependencies.Advanced
